Cameroon is situated in Central Africa and is often referred to as "Africa in miniature" for its geological and cultural diversity. Natural features include beaches, deserts, mountains, rainforests, and savannas. The largest cities are Douala, Yaounde and Garoua. Both English and French are official languages although French is by far the most spoken language.
Cameroon essentially offers hunters two types of hunts, a Savannah hunt in the north and a forest hunt in the South of the country. These hunts are quite different not only in terms of the species that are hunted but also in the topography of the hunting terrain. While it is possible to combine these two hunts on a single trip to Cameroon it is not recommended as the prime times for these two hunts do not coincide and a compromise has to be reached.
The main draw for hunters in Cameroon is two of Africa’s prize antelope species. The majestic Lord Derby Eland found in the Northern Savannahs and the elusive Bongo that lives in the rain forest in the south. Apart from these two main species Cameroon also boasts two varieties of buffalo (savannah and forest), two species of elephant (forest and savannah), lion, hippo, sitatunga and a host of other savannah antelope, forest duikers and other species unique to West and Central Africa.
